Health status is very important for a breeding company working in different countries with breeding animals. Transport of live animals or semen/embryos between farms and between countries should not lead to the  spread of diseases. Therefore, breeding on the genetic nucleus is done under a Topigs Norsvin specific-pathogen-free (SPF) health condition, including PRRS, APP, and Mycoplasma. Artificial insemination is used more intensely because semen gives fewer health threats than alive boars; it can be used to exchange genetic material to connect breeding lines worldwide.
