The assumptions for the selected proportions and the accuracy of selection are most correct in commercial pig and poultry breeding. In this case the decision maker owns all potential breeding animals. The selected proportion may depend somewhat on the market for breeding animals and their offspring, but at least changes from the original breeding plan are recorded. The animals are selected based on their (genomic) breeding value. The accuracy of the estimated breeding value may vary a little but is taken into account. However, even in those breeding companies there may be unexpected practical events, such as a disease outbreak, that prevent selecting the intended proportion. But in general in these species the equations to predict the selection response do apply.
