The plant length is preferably 220 cm or slightly more. Special harvesters mechanically cut the stalks into two pieces of about 1 m and lay them parallel on windrows in the field. This way, the stalks can be processed on a flax scutching line (§[7.1.1](https://wiki-groenkennisnet.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HNPE/pages/295011283)) after retting (§[5.4](https://wiki-groenkennisnet.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HNPE/pages/295010883)).
