## What can you find here?

As you may already know, biobased materials are produced from renewable resources, such as plants, animals, and microorganisms, rather than fossil-based materials. These materials have less of a negative impact on the environment than their fossil-based counterparts and they are increasingly being used in a variety of applications, including textiles.

In this course, we will embark on a journey to explore the world of biobased materials for textile applications. From exploring available biobased materials and their properties, to designing a garment following sustainable design principles. The course is divided in four modules, see image.

We will start by explaining the current state of the textile industry by exploring textile value chains, and how important it is to shift away from the linear make-use-dispose model. After that, we will explore the design considerations and potential applications of biobased materials in textiles. But to understand how we can change design; we need to have a more detailed view of the material. To do that, we will understand the differences between different fibres, especially their properties, and characteristics. Finally, we will gather all the information learned and give you an overview of how we can start creating systemic change, by, for example, inviting communities to be part of the textile production networks.

Throughout the course, we will stress the importance of developing a common language and understanding as it is crucial for effective communication and fostering comprehensive perspectives.

## Target group

This online course has been designed for professionals in the textile sector.

- Agri-food experts who are looking for the valorisation of residual flow for textiles.
- Designers and product developers working in textile and fashion companies.
- Buyers and sustainability managers in the textile industry
