Not all nutrients are healthy. Certain sorts of fat, the saturated fat and trans-fat found in foods such as cookies, muffins, cakes, fatty cut pieces of meat should be restricted for consumption. Sodium, which humans largely ingest from added salts, should be consumed every day but within a healthy range. The increased consumption of foods containing salt (think about crisps, fries, or large amounts of salt added during cooking or at the table to increase the tastiness of the food) is an unwanted trend worldwide. The high consumption of sugar-containing foods also poses a risk for health.
There are many more components in food that can cause a risk for a person’s health, like contaminants, allergens, bacteria etc., but these are not within the scope of this document and will not be discussed here.
